Dear Lola,
“O sisters let's go down
Let's go down, come on down
O sisters let's go down
Down in the river to pray.”
Let's go down, come on down
O sisters let's go down
Down in the river to pray.”
We have visited the river two times now, and we are pretty sure you are a river child at heart. Wide-eyed you look around, as the breeze whistles through the trees and the tide slowly creeps in, we sit and watch.
We are very excited to introduce you to the river, a place that your papa and I hold close. It is a place where all sorts of adventures have unfolded. Spending long, lazy, summer days floating in the canoe, dreaming you up as we drifted. A place where we sat as the sun set and jumped off the jetty bare-skinned. A place that we would get married by and sit quietly as we felt you dance in my belly.
And now the three of us are here, watching as papa searches for crabs under the rocks, and listening to the splashes made by the fish jumping out of the water. You are our bare-foot river child and oh how we love you.
Your mama x
